Tomate Rooms in Alicante

The beach city of Alicante has plenty of hotel options. You can always find one suitable for your needs and budget. My criteria is usually on the proximity to places and transport. So I selected Tomate Rooms for our stay.

Arrival and Check-In to Tomate Rooms

We arrived Alicante via its airport and took the public bus C-6  to the last stop Puerta del Mar.  From the bus stop I turned on Google maps and navigated the 7-minute walk to the Hotel which was easy enough to locate.

As we arrived after 7pm the Reception is already closed and the Hotel sent us instructions and codes for entry. The codes did not work unfortunately but within minutes, Omar approached us and led us next door to the shop Nukak which is also owned by Jorge. He then proceeded to provide us with new codes for entry to the main door and our room. After that everything was smooth and we could go up to the room immediately.

Tomate Rooms - Loft Style

Our apartment / loft was located on the 2nd floor. There is an elevator which is not always the case in Europe. So it’s all good if you have luggages. There is a code lock to get the key to the room and we had our first impression of the room.

Firstly it is big with 75 sqm , there is plenty of space as it has a kitchen and a living area as well as the bed and the bathroom/toilet is attached too. It is loft style so pretty much open concept with some clever use of partitions like curtains.

The attached bathroom came with a shower with good water pressure.

The kitchen is really well equipped and looks like an industrial kitchen with refrigerator , microwave, stove, dishwasher awe well as cooking utensils and cutlery. We did not cook as there are so many food options nearby.  The dining table looks like a retro booth of a diner, really fun!

There is a coffee machine with coffee capsules and an assortment of tea. The wine is a welcome gift and what we personally appreciated more than anything is the free bottles of water provided.

As we arrived late, we did the check-in the next morning. We found out that we could get coffee capsules , tea and water refill from the reception free of charge. This made us feel very happy as our basic needs were cared for.

The room looked out onto the road and the opposite building. With the windows closed it was comfortable and when we aired out and opened the window the street below is pretty busy with traffic and people but that comes with staying in Alicante center. I liked that I could watch the life going on from the comfort of the big windows.

The living room has a TV which we just turned on once , curious to check out the channels.

Tomate Rooms Facilities and Service

When we stayed , there was no breakfast offered from Tomate Rooms but this was no problem at all since the room is equipped with a kitchen and right opposite is a great coffee and breakfast place.

The room has an ironing board and a mini-cleanup closet with brooms and dust pans as the daily cleanup is a special request and chargeable. We did not mind this as we anyway prefer to not have people going in and out during our stay.

There is no safe locker in the room , that is probably a good addition to have.

There is a laundry in the common area with washer and dryer which is chargeable. We did not use this facility for our short stay.

No parking facilities on-site but it can be discussed in advance with the Hotel where to park and to check for reduced rates.

The reception is not open 24 hours – so it is important to let the Hotel know your arrival time and also checking out procedures if not within the working hours. We received our codes to the doors and room before arrival.

One very nice thing Tomate Rooms provided was we could take beach blankets, umbrellas, children toys to the beach and simply put it back after we are done. This service is so helpful and best of all it is free of charge.

The Verdict on Tomate Rooms Alicante

Tomate Rooms exceeded my expectations. As I mentioned earlier: it met our basic needs – very clean, comfortable beds, bottled water provided with coffee, tea making facilities, safe surroundings.

The additional perk is the big loft with the equipped kitchen. We borrowed beach towels to bring with us to Postiguet Beach just within a 7-minute walk.

The owner Jorge, his wife and Omar and another lady working there all were super nice and friendly. They helped us with booking our taxi for our early flight back. Jorge’s wife , a Japanese gave me tips for where to find the best ramen places in Alicante.

As usual for me if you have been following my blog for some time, its all about location! Tomate Rooms could not have been better located. The important places are less than 10-minute walk away: the beach, Calle San Francisco (Mushroom street) and plenty of restaurant and bars around. Right outside is even a bus stop!

Worth a mention is that the first impression of the building and room is quirky – with its red and green theme reflecting the tomato!  Additionally the industrial kitchen with the retro dining area grew on me. I read later that Jorge used recycled items and combined them to reuse into the rooms which I find genius and not to mention a very green approach.

Would I stay here again ? – That is a resounding “Yes” from me.

  1. Thanks for the review of Tomate Rooms. I have been looking at the flight to Alicante and this is helpful. Good to know that it’s just 7 min walk from the last stop of Airport shuttle. Good to know that the room was equipped with a kitchen; that really helps in saving food costs while traveling.

  2. We visited Alicante by cruise ship so did not need accommodations. But we know we want to go back so it was interesting to learn more about Tomate Rooms. We too put proximity to sights and transport high on our criteria list. Having an elevator is also high on our list because we have yet to learn to pack light. And when we are away for a long time, it is always a bonus if there are laundry facilities. Great to know that the Tomate Rooms exceeded your expectations.

  3. I must say it looks like a cosy home. It has just about the all facilities needed to have a happy holiday. I liked the fact they were happy to help you and also so many things like coffee were free of charge. Certainly, the wine would be a good offer. I think it makes for a good place to stay, going by your recommendation.

  4. It looks like you had a great time staying at Tomate Rooms in Alicante. The studio looks very spacious and I like that it has such a big kitchen. The check-in process sounds a bit clunky, I don’t like being sent a code for the exact reason what happened to you: it doesn’t work. I prefer a proper key. It’s nice though that they welcomed you with a bottle of wine, and could ask for free coffee pods daily.

  5. Tomate room in Alicante looks like a perfect base to explore the city. I like the red design actually. Good that you enjoyed your stay also you had a blotched start with the non-working door code.

  6. This totally looks like the type of place I’d book! I like more modest accommodations as I’d rather spend money on other things but this looks safe and clean. It would be good if they had a safe, but I rarely use it anyway. Parking is a big deal for us as we tend to rent a car, but it looks like a great option for an overnight stay!

  7. Tomate Rooms looks like the kind of place we would seek out in Alicante — something affordable with plenty of amenities and close to city attractions and beach! Wonderful that an in-room kitchen is available as that helps to save money on meals. I love the contrast between cute decor (like the table and chairs that resermble a dining booth) and the industrial nature of the kitchen. The size of the room is another great perk — I certainly appreciate the opportunity to spread out a little and relax at the end of a long day!

  8. Nice review. We like places like this to stay, within walkable distance to main attractions and friendly hosts. The kitchen is the star attraction. Such a well-equipped personal kitchen is a rare thing. The room looks bright too.

  9. This is a nice alternative rather than staying in big hotels. 🙂

The industrial looking kitchen looks really interesting with the matching diner table and chairs set. I agree with you– it’s fun. 🙂
The owner is very thoughtful to provide the free wine, coffee and water. Will surely consider this on our future trips.
