Modern Hotel Mooons in Vienna

-Europe.Austria.Vienna-

It’s December- time to head on to the capital city of Austria for some Christmas lights and atmosphere. Our plan was to stopover at Vienna via the Main Train Station after a visit to the Czech Republic. For convenience and to shorten travel time, I wanted to stay somewhere close by. Mooons Hotel Vienna was my selection in the end.

With its catchy slogan “No stars, just Mooons” the concept is brought to life throughout the Hotel : from the design and the incorporation of the mystical moon theme everywhere, I appreciated how the detailed planning resulted in clever use of space and flexibility in this modern Hotel.

Arrival and Check-In to Mooons

This time we were spending an extended weekend visiting Christmas markets : first in Brno then in Vienna. You can read tips on Parking in Vienna on my Vienna blog

After getting off the train at the Wien Hauptbahnhof , we walked 4-minutes to arrive at Mooons. The first view of the Hotel was a good one, with its classic black with round yellow windows. We were greeted warmly by the reception and informing us that the room is ready. We were served efficiently and within minutes we could already go up to our rooms with the elevators right by the reception area.

Our room was on the 7th floor; when we opened the door and stepped in, it was a cozy space with a modern design.  I found a hand-written note of greeting together with a fruit platter, chocolates and a bottle of Prosecco. I felt very welcomed indeed.

The bed did not just look good it was also very comfortable with easily movable side tables that were also equipped with electric sockets. Decor is very consistent around the Hotel and in the room as well. Lighting is suitably warm and contributes to the cozy atmosphere in-room. The beautiful round window brings in natural light and looks out to some recognizable landmarks of Vienna.

In-room facilities include a 43′ smart TV with casting functionalities which we used to watch a Netflix movie in the evening.  Instant Coffee and tea-making facilities complemented our TV evening as well as a great pick-me up in the morning. Additionally there was bottled water waiting for us which was much appreciated. The room included a small empty fridge – very nice if you would like to chill the complimentary bottled water.

There is of course a safe as well as ironing facilities. The bathroom has a shower with Rituals amenities. (a nice touch).  The temperature control was adjustable and set at a perfectly comfortable temperature while it was completely cold outside.

Mooons Hotel has a rooftop Bar! I would have loved to experienced that but it is closed during the winter time. I hope to have another chance to visit it when it is open.

The hotel is also equipped with a small gym with nice views outside.  Breakfast is served at the restaurant in the mornings with healthy and vegan options.

There is no wellness or spa and pets are not allowed.

Parking possibilities with the Hotel itself or if not a public parking garage nearby. Not really cheap but check with the Hotel if one is needed.

The Verdict on Mooons Hotel Vienna

It is just super convenient to arrive at the Hotel being so close to the train station, the underground station (U-Bahn) as well as the Tram. We were able to visit Vienna’s Christmas markets on our visit and came back easily to our warm Hotel.

Once again we found a great Hotel in Vienna for a comfortable stay. It was a pity that the Rooftop Bar was not open during the winter time , otherwise we would have loved to have a drink there to soak up more of the atmosphere. As we did not have breakfast here I am not able to comment.  If ever we were to take the train again, the Mooons Hotel Vienna would be at the top of my choice to stay in again and I can recommend it highly to you too.

  1. I have seen Moons Hotel when I visited Vienna for the Christmas markets too. My hotel was nearby, and the designed stood out. I remember it being recommended by a friend who lived in Vienna for a few months as well. The room looks great, and I like that it’s very spacious. Love the modern bathroom. And the view is just perfect. Those “moon” windows are amazing!

  2. This is cool. I love the architecture to begin with. It’s good that you got/booked a room on the 7th floor, the view from atop there is stunning. The circular windows and the window seats are just perfect. Good to know that there are vegan options in the breakfast buffet. Vienna does have some interesting, quirky places to stay. When I visited I was torn between the Wombat hostel with panoramic view and the Space home apartment and finally chose Wombat. Next time it’s gonna be Mooons & then Space home! Haha.

  3. The Moons Hotel in Vienna looks indeed very special. I absolutely love the round windows – like on a ship. But with a better view. The room looks pretty spacious and the rooftop bar is a great highlight in summer. They could have offered mulled wine there too!

  4. We visited Vienna in the summer but it looks like a lovely spot to visit for Christmas lights and seasonal cheer. A hotel themed as “just Mooons” sounds like a fun spot to check out. The building from the outside would certainly draw us in. Your amenity with chocolate and Prosecco was a great way to start. I too would have been disappointed to find the rooftop bar closed. I am sure in the summer it is a great spot for views. Good to know it is a good spot if travelling by train.

  5. The quirky look of the hotel is the one thing that immediately caught my attention. I also loved their way of welcoming you to the room with the fruits and chocolates. The beds look so comforting and cozy. I wish I knew about this hotel before I visited Vienna, but I would definitely plan a stay here during my next visit. Its close proximity to the train station would make our stay more convenient.

  6. This looks like a great place to stay. I love how modern and simple the rooms looked with adequate facilities. Too bad there is no spa available but I like that they have a rooftop bar.

Will surely consider this during our future trips. I love how convenient its location is. Thank you for the recommendation.

  7. That’s good that Mooons is so close to the train station. I also love the name and the round windows – it looks so intriguing from the outside. I’m also jealous of the time of year you were there. It sounds so fun! And I’m a sucker for a handwritten note and fresh fruit greeting me in a hotel room. Such nice touches!

  8. The hotel looks nice. Love those yellow-bordered circular windows. The room looks comfy too. The only letdown is the no-pets policy. Nice review.
