We are on a team trip and getting 7 single rooms in the same hotel proved a little challenging for the time we plan to be there. Obviously a bigger hotel has the solution. We stayed at the Hotel Occidental Ljubljana and this was how it went.

Arrival and Check-In to Occidental Hotel
We arrived in Ljubljana in two cars and drove directly into the garage which had a closed door. After a call to the number shown, we were informed to come to the reception first for a QR code to enter.
There was no easy way to stop outside the Hotel as it was a main road and we ended up parking at the Kongresni Trg parking instead. It was then a 2 min walk to the Hotel. The Hotel Lobby has an open – concept and has nice natural light.
The check in process itself was quite easy as we had already pre paid including the night stay tax of 3.13 Euros/per person / night
After each of us were ‘processed’ we went up to our respective rooms to freshen up.
Hotel Occidental Room
I had a room on the 3rd Floor. Upon entering , one could see that it has a modern design. The 20 square meter room is a Superior Double room with a view of the city street.
The bed is wide and comfortable in the room that has good soundproofing internally – the sound of the streets can still be heard until late at night. The blackout curtain was good for blocking out the light as it was bright very early in the mornings.
I was thankful for the air-conditioning on a hot summer visit.
The room came with separate shower and toilet , both quite spacious and the toilet even has an automatic sensor that switches on the light.
The wash basin area is quite special standing as an open concept to the rest of the room. Standard toiletries and hair dryer is available.
Within this space is a cabinet with an open-clothes rack. It does not seem to be able to hang many pieces of clothing. The cabinet houses a small safety deposit box and a place for luggage.
A mini refrigerator and tea bags and instant coffee is included for making drinks.
Flat screen TV with some channels showing Slovenian and German programs hangs on the wall above the writing desk.
Last but not least the room is equipped with USB ports as well by the bed side.
Hotel Occidental Facilities
Our stay included buffet breakfast at the onsite Sumi restaurant – The spread is quite big and offered in typical European breakfast style. The other on-site restaurant is La Santa Maria Tapas Bar
There is no pool in the Hotel but a gym located on the first level. The gym equipments are pretty new still at the time of writing.
Parking at the garage is available at an extra charge of 35 Euros / day and needs to be reserved in advance.
The Verdict on Hotel Occidental
Hotel Occidental has a 4-star rating and comes with the usual things I would expect from this rating. As it is new and has a modern design this is a plus and is well-located only about 350m away from the famous bridge of Ljubljana center.
However I find it quite pricey , as such I recommend staying at the City Hotel Ljubljana instead which is older but got a refurbishment recently ; the views there are simply magnificent – read all about it in my blog post.
