Škofja Loka – The charming medieval town you won’t want to skip as a day trip.

There are plenty of attractive small towns that are worth a visit. As a side trip from Ljubljana or even Bled, this medieval town is about 30 mins drive from the Slovenian capital. Roughly 23km away. I personally would not spend the night here as there is not so much to explore and the lodgings are also limited.

Getting here:

There are trains from Ljubljana – time table and ticket purchase are on this site.

Buses are a cheap option – time schedule and ticket prices on this site.

There is a car park right opposite of the bus station, in the case you are driving. On Sundays parking is for free. To get into the town center simply pass through the bus station across the bridge.

Seeing Škofja Loka:

Go across the bridge to reach the town center.

From this bridge you have a nice view on both sides , one view is the stone bridge known as the Capuchin Bridge.

On the other side is also a pretty view of more houses built on the river walls.

The elevated castle also houses a museum , which got good reviews from visitors. I did not go but maybe next time, as it houses informative history of the region as well as some art works.  The entrance fee is also not exorbitant, it sounds like one of the better museums to visit. Apart from that the views are also nice from up there. Here is the link for opening times and tickets.

All in all , this town is charming enough to keep you entertained when you are looking for some historical culture and nice views.
