The Spa Resort Town of Portorož

-Europe.Slovenia.Portoroz-

A beach resort town filled with big hotels offering spa getaways , its a popular place all year round. The Mind Life hotels offer large indoor swimming pools heated with sea water. Getting there for a spa getaway is still a part of my plan – because I like the easy vibe there. Furthermore my favourite ice-cream and dessert place is right there on the beach.

Getting to Portoroz

There are buses from Ljubljana and the fastest one makes the trip in 1 hour 45 minutes. That is by GoOpti and the fastest way is not the cheapest. There is also the Flix Bus but that takes much longer – 4 and a half hours with a stop in Trieste.
Here you find the link to the bus schedules.

Where to Stay in Portoroz

There are plenty of accomodation options in Portoroz. Unfortunately I have not done an overnight here, so I have no recommendations at the moment.

What to do in Portoroz

Summertime sees a lot of people flocking to the beach , so no surprise that you find plenty of restaurants , cafes at the beach itself. Some of them have rentable beach chairs and umbrellas.

We took the coastal path along the coastline to walk to the next town of Piran.

Nice coastal walk to Piran

Spotting a glimpse of the tower in Piran. I highly recommend a visit here. Its a lovely place to visit as well.

In the end, the whole idea is to do nothing much other than get pampered and enjoy the delicious Mediterranean cuisine and watch sunsets after the day is done. That’s what life is all about in sunny coastal Portoroz

  1. Wow! This is indeed a popular place. I can’t help but imagine myself enjoying the beach while having ice cream.

Thank you for sharing these day trip ideas. You just inspired me on what to do next weekend.

  2. Looks like a great place for a trip. Taking a coastal walk would definitely be relaxing. The beach looks nice too! You’re right Mediterranean cuisine is wonderful and representative of exactly what I want when on vacation!

  3. Wow this looks like an awesome place to explore. would love to spend time in the sunny beaches and watch ships in the evening. Piran coastwalk is also great.

  4. This looks like absolute paradise especially with the dessert offerings on the beach! And it’s super convenient that you can rent chairs/umbrellas so you don’t have to drag your own around. Adding Mediterranean cuisine to the mix makes Slovenia a dream!

  5. I remember Portoroz because that was the first family vacation we took when I was very little. Even though I visited Slovenia multiple times after that, I never made it back to Portoroz. It seems like the city developed a lot since then and it looks a lot more touristy but still, I would love to visit someday.

  6. Mind Life hotels… the name alone makes me want to book a week to rejuvenate! Coastal walks, sunsets, ice cream on the beach and lazy days under an umbrella sound perfect.

  7. Wow, this looks like a beautiful getaway for spending some relaxing time. Yes, I would love to visit Portoroz to just get pampered and simply laze around. Sometimes ‘sitting at the beach doing nothing’ is also needed.

  8. I must admit never thought of visiting Slovenia to date but posts like these help show the world that there is so much on offer on these lesser promoted destinations in Europe. I would surely want to visit Portoroz in the future with so much on offer. Great to know that the beach resort town is filled with big hotels offering spa getaways as well so if you after a relaxing a spa break even this ticks the box. Another interesting aspect is the great food you have mentioned. Thanks for sharing Portoroz

  9. This looks like a place for a beach vacation with your loved one. I am liking the vibes out there. Sitting on the beach and watching the water behind horizon with great drink and food would be ideal for this location. Loved it
