-Europe.Slovenia.Snovik-
In Europe besides the conventional hotel stays, it is common to head to the spa resorts available all over the continent. It is a very popular thing to do. My very first try was in the Slovenian Eco Resort , Terme Snovik. Located about an hour from Ljubljana , it is in the middle northern part of Slovenia the country.
Getting there:
Most convenient would be of course by car as the location is in the Tuhinj valley where there are vast spaces of nature away from the bigger towns.
From Ljubljana , take the almost hourly train toward Kamnik Mesto. The journey takes averagely 45 minutes and costs from 2 -8 Euros depending on seating class and trains. Check the link here for schedules and ticket prices. After that with the taxi 10km further to Snovik in the price range of 20 Euros.
Our Experience:
Arrival and check-in.
We arrived by car around 2pm just in time for checking in. There was a car park by the reception area which was also where the pool, restaurant and spa area is located.
After a smooth uncomplicated check-in , we could drive up to our Accomodations higher up the hill. There is a security bar prohibiting entry unless you are guests of Terme Snovik. Thumbs up for security.
Accomodations.
There were multiple buildings for accomodations up the slightly elevated hill. Some were pool facing and others had the mountain views. We were at the highest level with balcony. The room itself was spacious and clean. Plenty of room and a very large bathroom. It had more of a conventional feel than a modern one with wooden furnishings.
Available are also apartment styled accomodations to cater for families and for longer term stays.
Facilities:
Included in the stay is unlimited swimming at the indoor and outdoor pools with thermal water. We also had fun taking the slides at the outdoor pool Whhhhheeeee! I had to jostle with some kids who were pretty fast in coming back for return sliding.
Spa is not included and is a separate pricing for spa and sauna. They also offer physiotheraphy and massages also for a price.
Wi-fi is only available in the reception and restaurant areas.
Things to do:
Terme Snovik subscribes to the Kneipp philosophy of holistic living. This is evident in the hotel grounds where one is encouraged to go on the barefoot paths provided as well as the usage of fresh herbs from the hotel’s herb garden.
The Resort offers free bikes for rent to explore the vast nature of the area. There are marked hiking trails to explore around during the day.
The hotel also offered instructed morning pool exercises which was fun to join and follow.
Eating:
We had breakfast and dinner included with our stay and this option is highly recommended. They serve buffet style , not that many choices but really really good food and healthy too.
The Verdict.
The Good:
Really good option for a short getaway from the stress.
The non-available wi-fi in the room is good for some distance to social media.
The eco-resort focuses on back to the basics in touch with nature getaway. The surroundings is good for immersing into walks, hikes or cycle. After a tiring day , to relax in the pools and to have healthy and delicious food waiting is a pleasure.
The Not-so-good:
If the weather is bad or there is snow – one would still have to dress warmly to get to the resort building but that is just a small inconvenience.
