I recently had the opportunity to visit Bangkok again after many years. One thing that has not changed is the city’s notoriously busy traffic. That is why I was really pleased to stay at The Montien Surawong in the Silom district. We made a family trip where I flew in from Europe to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi while my family flew to Don Mueang airport and Montien Surawong was pretty much the middle point.
Address: 54 Thanon Surawong, Silom, Bang Rak, Bangkok 10500, Thailand

The Montien Hotel Surawong was one of Bangkok’s original 5-star hotels. In 2019 , the owners, the Tantakit family started refurbishment of the Hotel with the tagline “Revival of the Original” – which set out to retain the rich heritage of the original and modernize it at the same time. The result is astounding with its rich elements brought back to life and seamlessly intertwined with latest up to date comforts.
Arrival and Check-in to Montien Surawong
I made my way from the airport to the Hotel with a taxi and the arrival to the hotel grounds had a security block. Before I even got out of the taxi , my luggage was already efficiently on its way to the Hotel Lobby. Very warm greetings all around from the staff from the doormen to the bellhop to the reception. Its not a wonder that Thailand is known as the Land of Smiles. The check-in process was very smooth. I was met by two lovely ladies , one of them Tassanee (Pooh) a very sweet lady who is the Director of Marketing & Communications. They escorted me up to the room and later she would give me more insight about the Hotel which is fascinating.
Montien Surawong Room
The door to the Room opens up to a spacious 30 square meters plenty of room to place luggage and hang up clothing in a corner. Comfortable twin beds with eye catching headboards. My eyes were drawn to the window which looked out to some of the Bangkok skyline and the busy roads. Totally Instagram friendly views! By the windows , a beautiful spread of cakes, dessert and fruits together with a handwritten welcome message which was heartwarming and made me feel instantly at home.
Beds are the most important thing in a hotel room for me. I normally am out sight seeing most of the day and at the end of a tiring , busy day – I look forward to a comfortable bed to drop into slumber. I was sleeping through the whole night on this very comfortable bed.
The bathroom is spacious and spotlessly clean. More important to note is the use of natural products from Charcoalogy – a nice touch and great product too. The rain shower has good water pressure to wash away the day’s sightseeing grime.
Amenities provided are pretty complete and includes dental kits. Bathrobes hung up ready for use. A safe is available as well as minibar and coffee and tea making facilities.
As I have mentioned earlier , I was pleasantly surprised by the delicious spread of dessert. They look very colourful and delicately arranged. Such a delight!
Our room was up on the 16th floor which afforded us a fantastic view from the windows. From our side of the room we were privy to captivating sunrise views. The only thing was getting out of the oh-so-comfy bed at 6:10 am. It was worth it though. Check out for yourself in the picture below.
Montien Surawong Facilities
Pool
The pool is located on the 3rd floor of the Hotel. While it is not very large in size, the view of the tall buildings around makes it very photogenic. We had a fun time taking photos here and a hard time selecting one to showcase. In the end ,below are the two that made it. Now isn’t that just pretty ?
Gym
Right beside the pool , is the fully equipped gym for the people who want to stay fit to utilize. It has different sections and has a very nice view of the Lumpini Park while running the treadmills.
Function Rooms
The Montien Surawong seems to be ever prepared to be hosting any events , intimate or grand with its function rooms. I had the privilege of a tour around. The grand ballroom is a popular location due to its flexibility to cater to number of participants and the nature of the event. The Rajmontine Grand Ballroom has state of the art audio visual equipment. Weddings are popularly held there. The smaller but unique Montienthip can host up to 100 people. The ambience is akin to a palace where one awaits an audience with the King. Impressively grand in an intimate setting.
Eateries
I read rave reviews of Ruenton Restaurant from user reviews platforms like Trip Advisor and was very interested to try this Michelin approved eatery. During breakfast the restaurant offers buffet breakfast spread and by lunch it serves its repertoire of local favourites such as its renowed Hainanese Chicken Rice. We had the opportunity to eat at both the buffet and dinner.
We had the signature Chicken Rice which was anticipated to be good and it was – I am actually a rice person and my judgement of a good chicken rice is how fragant the rice is and this one met my expectations! – Besides we had the duck , the pomelo salad which was very refreshing. The pad thai was outstanding too . Tomyam gung had a real kick to it and all at once I am conscious of how spicy the Thais like it! To top everything off, the drinks were fabulous too.
The buffet breakfast in the mornings had many choices ranging from the western style bacon and eggs, toast , yoghurt to Thai fare of chicken noodle soup, dim sum , fried rice. They served strong coffee which I appreciated as I was coping a little with jet lag.
The Verdict
I can only see good things in store for Montien Surawong, it has all the important things desirable in a Hotel. Most of all is the convenient location near to public transport. The updates done only served to enhance the Hotel ambience and making it current at the same time and this includes being very Instagrammable. The Garden Lounge is so beautiful that we took endless photos. It is an experience to stay at the Montien Surawong primarily due to the team of people working there under the management of Pierre-André Pelletier who is actively around the Hotel greeting guests and creating a welcoming vibe throughout the hotel. I for one would definitely return for a repeat stay.
Note: Our stay at the Montien Surawong was partially sponsored. However the opinion written here is purely my own through the experience of staying here.
