The day looked promising from the weather forecast. It is predicted to be sunny and the wind calms down to a breeze.
I hope this is the case as we started on another long journey by bus, this time to explore the Southern part. At first I settled down and was prepared for the same scenery from yesterday but that was not to be the case. The vistas along the way was the true highlight of the journey!
The 1st stop was a hike to a glacier lake.
The next was a lunch break at the picturesque village of Vis, which is the southernmost town of Iceland. It faces the ocean and the sound of waves crashing on the sea cliffs is both soothing and intimidating.
There was a bakery, a restaurant and a supermarket there. I browsed around looking for something and saw an instant noodle in a cup. There was a hot water dispenser at the coffee machine and used it for the noodles. There were two Japanese ladies with instant noodles too next to me and were slurping noisily away much to the surprise of the other patrons. It is really amusing when cultures collide.
After lunch, time to see the black sand beach with the impressive columnar basalt and rock formations which is formed by time elapsed cooling of lava.
Next we headed on to Skogafoss. When we were there a stunning rainbow arch made its way to the water sprays. Very impressive waterfall indeed.
Proceeding on to the last stop which is Seljalandfoss. It is special as it is possible to walk behind the waterfall. This time however not due to being too icy.
Double rainbow at the Seljalandfoss
There is a smaller waterfall beside it which looked very interesting as well.
As I mentioned earlier the real highlight is the landscape itself. From the Volcano Eyjafjallajökull which erupted in 2010 disrupting air travel due to ashes in Europe. It sits looking innocently serene on this beautiful day..

Farm houses that look tiny against the big mountain backdrop.
And the so beautiful Icelandic horses on the farms together with other livestock.
The beauty of nature in Iceland is hard to beat and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to see it with my own eyes.
