I am a sucker for waterfalls – even when there is a slight rapid bump in the drainage , makes me go “Awww!” . Naturally I would make a trip to Plitvice – known for its tremendous waterfall views from all angles.
An important fact is that this is National Park area and no swimming is allowed but its a paradise for photography and nature lovers. In fact quite a number of things are not allowed.
In the summer months , this place attracts tourists like moths to a flame. So to make the most of the day, you should plan to get there early.
Getting Here:
We got here by car and there are car parks available at both entrances for a fee at the Park. Park entry and car park fees are available at this link. Do note that Croatia uses the Kuna and not the Euro.
Alternatively there are bus services from Zagreb or Zadar which is a journey of about 2 hour 15 mins per way give or take. Here is the link for the bus company for the schedules and prices.
Luggage storage is available at the entrances. Ask at the information counter. Last information I have is that it’s free.
Seeing Plitvice:
There are multiple programs that you can follow depending on how long you would like to hike and there are corresponding paths to follow – During our visit , we used the bus and then also the ferry cross the lake.
There are well-defined walking planks that provides the route where you should walk. Good walking shoes are a must. I have seen some people with high heels , though it may look good its not the right place for it.
The views are astounding and a lot of shady places provided by the tree lines.
The water is invitingly blue or green and there is a clear view of the fishes that reside in the lake.
The rich nature is a dream for photographers.
In conclusion this National Park is a great way to spend a day or two. The physical hiking activities are available for different fitness levels. Go experience it for yourself!
