Visiting the Keukenhof Gardens was worth it for its landscaping and the many layered flowers planted is an impressive sight to see. Equally impressive and not to be missed are the rows of colourful tulip fields before they are headed.
Lately it has become a trend to hunt down tulip fields and visiting Keukenhof provides an opportunity to do so. Renting bikes with maps for the hunt is great, great fun and highly recommended.
After we came out from the Gardens , we headed towards the car park where the Rental Bike company was. I had done pre-booking on the Internet. There was a queue but the employees were efficient. The procedure to get the bikes went smoothly and we were fitted with the bike with seat adjustment. We rented helmets as well and soon we were ready to start our adventure!
We started off on the red path..as this was within our time boundary we have. We hired a tandem bike and took off soon with other bikers. It was not too long before we came to a beautiful colourful tulip field. The fields did not have a do not enter sign and other people were there photographing away. I do have to say though I saw some disturbing behaviours where people trampled onto the tulip plants in their excitement to be among the flowers. Please respect the fields and its owners.
We stopped by the Lake for a break – there is a restaurant serving lunch – Indian food and coffee.
Riding in tandem allows one to navigate and take photos.
It was all in good fun and we had the chance to do some tandem cycling. That is a great way to check out the surroundings of Lisse too. We unfortunately did not reach the coast which is on the Red Route. That may be a reason to make another visit.

I’ve been to Amsterdam twice, but it was always in winter when tulips weren’t in bloom. You are VERY right about respecting the flowers and the owners of the fields. Your photos are lovely, too. It’s a gorgeous place to be in tulip season!

There is no better way of seeing the tuilip fields than on a bike on a warm, calm spring day. So glad you brought up about respecting the owner’s fields, a lot of visitors dont tend to respect it as much whenever I visit the fields.
This is so cool. I had no clue we could rent bikes there. What a great way to see the tulip fields. I would love to do some tandem riding too. This sounds so much more fun than just seeing Instagrammers trampling those beautiful plants.
Reading your post reminds me of my time in the Netherlands. Saying that, I never did manage to hire a bike like this and see the glorious tulips. Should I return, I’ll definitely take your tips on board and see them for myself.
What a thrilling idea ! I would have never thought of renting a bike to visit tulip fields but considering that we are talking about Holland, that is the heaven of bicycles. Everybody has a bike there and this is so eco-friendly.
Riding a bicycle to tour the tulips at Keukenhof Gardens?! Sign me up! What an experience to see the gorgeous tulips in person and also to ride a tandem bike. Kudos to you and your partner for riding a tandem bike as it’s not the easiest to manuever.
I to feel Amsterdam is the place to be in during the Tulip season. Beautiful pictures. I visualized I was there. Have been to Amsterdam twice and once got the feel. Would love to do a bike trip like yours certainly.
I visited Netherlands before but haven’t been to a tulip fields. Renting a bike exploring beautiful fields sounds like an amazing idea! When I return, I’d definitely visit Keukenhof Gardens and use your tips.
Seeing the tulip fields in Amsterdam is high on my bucket list. I love the idea of seeing them on bicycle; I never thought of that. Brilliant; I love active, outdoor days and the route looks perfect, too. Thanks for this idea and the bike rental resource. We’ll definitely use it!

We were there during the Easter weekend – but its unpredictable so i monitored the tulip blooms on the keukenhof website. that helps to catch the right timing, as it differs from year to year.
This this this!!! This is a definite for me, for this year!!! I’ve been wanting to go since last 2 years, but with my baby it had been nearly impossible, now she’s already 2 and I really have to go this year! While yes, the Keukehof gardens itself a good place to see, top in my mind, more important are those fields! Thank you for the detailed information on the routes & biking rentals.
The first time I visited Keukenhoff, I heard of the bike rentals. I loved the concept of it then but by the time I figured the rentals, it was time for me to leave. Reading and seeing about your experience got me craving for another trip again – this time to fulfill my incomplete quest of cycling through these fields. I so hope that I can catch the blooms soon.
