Under an hour’s drive with the car from King Ludwig’s other well-known Castle , Neuschwanstein lies Linderhof Palace. The palace is built on elevated grounds about 1000m above sea level it could be icy during the winters and chilly , remember those pull-overs and sweaters.
It’s best to check the opening times before going with this link.
*Tip: There is an annual ticket or a 14-day ticket available where you can go crazy visiting the different palaces in Bavaria. Its worthwhile checking into as it is valid for 14 days which will enable you entry to the places. Check out details here:
Getting There:
Obviously the easiest is with the car. There are plenty of parking spaces available.
With the train , wherever you are from , type in destination Bahnhof, Oberammergau – then onward with the bus 9622 to Linderhof Schloß, Ettal

As in my post to Hohenschwangau , here are some cost saving tips to consider :
Tip: get a Bayern Ticket for a day trip. It is especially worth it , if you travel in a group. *Bayern Ticket is valid on 2nd class for regional trains. It can also be used on Public buses, trams, S-Bahn and U-Bahn in Bavaria. Here is the link to check the validity travel times on weekdays and weekends: https://www.bahn.com/en/view/offers/regional/regional-day-tickets.shtml
*Tip: Watch out for the validity times of the ticket. As of print time the Bayern ticket is valid from 09:00am.
The attraction here is not only the Palace but the large grounds which the King paid fine detail to , in the building of the whole complex. There is the Swan Pond, the Moroccan House, the Royal Lodge, Venus Grotto , Pavillions , Garden Terraces, Fountains and Water features , all more impressive than the other.
I was very obviously there in autumn – the colours are super vivid then.
