It was rainy (what else) when I got to Belfast. The rain did not matter so much as I had tickets I had pre-booked to the Game of Thrones Exhibition. It was located in TEC Belfast I was feeling pretty excited and curious. From Belfast city centre to TEC, I took the Glider which is essentially a bus service. It is also walkable from the city centre – in 30 minutes.
Being a weekday during office hours and rainy, there were not many people which was great! Going in was a breeze – no queuing and relaxed. There are 15-minute timeslots for entry, presumably to avoid overcrowding.
Tickets can be bought on site or online. I bought it online to save myself from a potential ticket queue.
The Highlights
The Exhibits are divided into sections mainly according to the fictional Houses the characters belong to. Its a good feel as you move from one to another and it is familiar to what you know.
There are familiar props like the carriage that brought around the royalty. I always wondered how it would feel to be shuttled about in one of these. Might be too bumpy a ride for these modern times.
The colourful and familiar costumes on display. The attention to detail is incredible. Too bad they don’t have rentals for photo shoots. That would be kinda awesome. Don’t you think ?
Of course weapons are an important part of the show and cannot be left out. The Swords are on display here including “Needle” which I could test with, while wondering who I could stab with the pointy end. <Evil laugh for effect>
Fancy being down at the Stark Crypt ? Its dark and scary but nobody cared.
The North is freezing cold and full of darkness.
Mythical creatures abound – nobody believes until they have seen dragon eggs and dragons with their own eyes. Here you get to feast your eyes on the bones at least.
There is also a tower of Hall of Faces – gracing the cover of Season 6 of GoT. It is impressive and there is a hologram display you can also put your face own.
And of course Westeros where the Throne to the coveted Seven Kingdom sits.
In my opinion the exhibition is for Game of Thrones fan who can appreciate the costumes and the props. I don’t think a non-fan or someone who has never seen a single episode could fully appreciate it. Seeing it in Northern Ireland makes it feel like its at home since a lot of the filming was done here. In the end you could make the rounds pretty fast through the exhibition , there are not so many exhibits to see especially when you are there alone. I finished it within 30 minutes. There were some special stuff like the hologram face you could make of yourself in the Tower of Faces. Or you could do a picture with the Dragon like I did. The best is saved for the last , where there is a Throne replica to pose on. They placed the Throne right at the exit which you could do for free.
What a fun exhibition to attend. The costumes and their designs are beautiful. I did not see many of the GOT series. The hologram of the hall of faces is interesting, it would be fun to put your own face in it.
haha yes my face is in it 😀 and yeah its one of the interesting stuff to do.
OMG! That’s awesome! The wedding outfit of Joffrey and Margaery brought back some freaky memories of that episode!
Its awesome that they kept the Needle, as a part of touch & feel exhibit! I would have loved to try my hand with it!
Somehow ever since I saw the meme of Daenerys & Avocado, somehow I get reminded of avocados every time I see these! Haha…
I think you would have fun there complete with photo ops ! I dont know where it goes after Belfast though…
I haven’t watched any episodes of GOT. However, due to its popularity, I have been coming accross posts and clips about it. I can say that GOT is indeed a fantastic show and this exhibit would definitely delight fans… The Hologram of Hall of faces looks cool.I’m sure fans won’t miss it.
Lol this is so cool!! I love Game of Thrones, so would definitely appreciate this tour and exhibition. I love that you got to hold Needle, and sit in the throne too. I can tell from the photos that the material of the costumes are incredible. I’m saving this for my next NI trip!
I’ve never heard about this, what a fun thing to do. The hologram hall of faces thing looks pretty cool and sitting on the throne must be pretty exciting.
I love this honest take on the Game of Thrones exhibition. I have never seen the tv series myself but have quite a few friends that are die-hard fans and would enjoy this tour. “The North” looks really cool and the dragon bones is something I would love to see in real life.
I loved that rain did not hindered your plan as you had pre booked tickets. It would be great to see all those costumes of the famous Games of Thrones. I too agree with you that it would be great to take photo after dressing with all those costumes. I loved the swords and other weapons too. Your highlights of this exhibition is worth and I would surely go for it.
A must visit for every Game of Thrones fan I must admit and you couldn’t ask for more. I am currently in Dubrovnik and this has some great spots and tours connecting you to the epic series but nothing like this place where you have a lot of the costumes and sets that take you into the series itself. Being a big fan of the series I would love to visit it myself someday. With the unpredictable weather of Belfast I guess a indoor plan makes perfect sense. Thanks for a great tour of GOT relics.
