Arrival and Check-In to Hotel Cavo Olympo
We arrived at Thessaloniki airport and picked up our rental car. It took an hour 15 minutes to arrive at the Hotel Cavo Olympo. Parking is right in front of the Hotel and was included in our stay.
The lobby area is very impressive and we were the only ones checking in. So it went very smoothly . The receptionist was friendly and provided information about our stay. Very soon, we were on our way to the room.
Hotel Cavo Olympo Room
The Hotel Cavo Olympo building is only 2-storeys high and our room was on the top level. There are rooms with views of either Mt Olympus or the Sea View. Our room was the Superior Room with Sea View of the Aegean. Its a big room at 32 square meters, clean and airy.
The bathroom is huge and separated rooms for the toilet and another one for the shower. The shower has spray nozzles as well. Our superior room has an indoor jacuzzi – very relaxing and very nice to have! The products from Messinian Spa smelled really good.
The room comes with a mini-bar , coffee/tea making facilities that is replenished daily. It also has a safe and plenty of wardrobe space. There is also a desk and a sitting area. A flat screen television is available – we flipped through the channels but there was not much international choices to watch.
The views of the Agean Sea from our very own balcony is a definite highlight. The balcony is large and spending the mornings sipping coffee with this view was one enjoyable thing to look forward to.
Culinary Delights in Hotel Cavo Olympo
We like having half-board included in our stay. This meant that breakfast and dinner were inclusive. We went to the same restaurant throughout our stay there. The breakfast had plenty of options including an egg station where we got to choose what we wanted in our omelette. I particularly liked the smoothie section.
I look forward to the dinner as it has different options every day. On some days when the options were not the best, the nice staff offered us other options from the vegetarian menu. Nice people working there !
Hotel Cavo Olympo Wellness
We did not quite have luck with the weather as we stayed for 5 days and only had good weather on the day we arrived and the following day. So we had to change our outdoor plans and stayed indoors. We made reservations for the sauna and steam room. Since other guests were in the same predicament – it was not that easy to find a good time slot. We went during lunch time.
The spa and wellness area is at the basement level and offers the standard massages , spa treatments, beauty salon for additional cost. The sauna and steam room were the only ones we actually used – we were limited to an hour by appointment due to Covid.
I was actually looking forward to the indoor heated pool as the weather chilled out, but that was not open during the pandemic. Its lovely though and the relaxation room looks pretty cozy and normally tea is served. I guess that would have to be by appointment too – as the Hotel needs to disinfect after the guest usage,
Hotel Cavo Olympo Facilities
The Hotel with its 5-star rating has plenty of facilities – one of the most attractive for me is the private beach and direct access to the inviting Aegean Sea. The loungers and umbrellas and beach towels are available by the beach and pool side.
Cavo Olympo has an attractive setup with multiple swimming pools . One of them being an infinity pool – to look out into the Ocean. It incorporated the bar and sitting area with the pools and with groomed grass areas around it.
There is a gym at the basement and I saw a kind of library of books which I guess is available for borrowing.
Restaurants: Nero Restaurant , Aegeas Tavern al-fresco dining serving seafood Mediterranean style.
Bars: Janka Lobby Bar, Veranda Pool Bar and Nautilus Beach Bar
The Verdict on Hotel Cavo Olympo
One of the reasons I decided on Hotel Cavo Olympo was the many facilities available as a 5-star resort and it was highly rated by guests.
What I liked: The spacious clean room with a big balcony with very nice views of the sea.
The food in the restaurant is healthily prepared except for those sinful desserts worth saving a corner of stomach for!
The friendly people working there.
The location of the Hotel was by the coast with access to the beach and a short distance from Litochoro town which is the gateway to Mt Olympus. It also is not too far away from a day trip to Meteora!
What was disappointing:
Whether it was due to the pandemic or the bad weather, the pools (both indoor and out) were not open. In the end, we asked if we could swim in the Infinity pool anyway but only once.
We had a long waiting time for the food to be served every day.
We only saw the Nero Restaurant and the Lobby Bar open and overall it feels as if the Hotel had gone off on its own vacation.
The saving grace was we got an upgrade to this superior room with sea view which has a jacuzzi. Perhaps I will get a chance to experience the Hotel in its full glory in the future.
