The day started with grey skies and rain. The bus stop was deserted when I arrived. Buses came and went but not the one I was waiting for; it did come 45 minutes late. I thanked the stars that I had plenty of buffer before my flight.
Once on board, I settled in for the three hour flight. They were selling an interesting beet root tortilla and I chose to try it. Was an interesting mix that I will try out on my own. Filled with fallafel, red cabbage, sweet potato and hummus. Tasted delish!
Landed in Dublin and I found the bus to the city. It was quite the challenge to figure out the right stop but it was all good. I was pleasantly surprised that the location of the hotel was perfect. Right by the riverfront with one of the bridge connecting the north and south side. Both interesting in their own right.
I went out almost immediately after settling in my luggage eager to see Dublin! I had to get used to the left hand driving on roads and needed to recalibrate which side of the road to look for oncoming traffic. I crossed the river towards Trinity College , one of the oldest universities in the world. The grounds were well kept and as I got to learn the Irish are fond of busts and statues.
I read what I thought was a great tip, that if you went to see the Book of Kells a half hour before closing , you pay only half the admittance price. Well that is unfortunately not so , I paid the full 14 Euros. No photos are allowed at the Book of Kells exhibition but the rest were allowed without flash.
After 5 we were politely ushered out , I checked out more of the grounds then headed out to find an Asian Market for the next days. Saw some interesting sights along the way.
I was like a kid in a candy store at The Asian Market. Definitely the Asian community here can find a whole lot more than in Austria. I am making a mental note to come back before I leave Dublin. I got myself a bubble tea yummy!
Its Dinner time after my time in the market. My stomach is an hour ahead still. I found a HongKong Roast place but unfortunately they were all sold out. Mental note to try again , it looked really good! Standard food prices in restaurants are pretty high. For a good meal it would come to 20 + Euros. Its good that among these restaurants are the self service smaller places where I accidentally found a Malaysian restaurant at St.George Street. My very generous portioned nasi lemak costed 10 Euros.
After the refuel, I was ready to get going again. I found a walk through market place.
Also the famous Molly Malone statue. No prizes for guessing where she is most groped.
I headed to the famous Temple Bar area and before long found the street full of pubs and people. A rather merry and happening street with lots of pubs with live music.
I was tired after my long travel day and headed back across the river via the Ha’penny bridge.
