The Waterland area on the North East is another really good day trip from Amsterdam. I brought my Father with me for a visit to Volendam. I wanted to show him places outside of Amsterdam during our short trip there.

Getting to Volendam
In the Amsterdam post, I recommended highly to buy the Amsterdam Regional Travel Ticket which enables you to do multiple trips in Amsterdam and its surroundings. Volendam is one of the included destinations. Alternatively without the Amsterdam Regional Travel Ticket, you can buy the Waterland Day Ticket which covers multiple trips from Amsterdam to the Waterland area.
You can catch the EBS bus 316 directly from the Amsterdam Centraal Bus Station to Volendam. It is about a half hour journey. Here is the link for the bus schedule.
What to see inVolendam
We spent a few hours just leisurely walking around and having lunch! – and what a lunch it was. Picturesque place – perfect for a day trip out. Here are a few photos –
From Volendam you can get to Marken with the Waterland tickets or the Amsterdam regional tickets- you would need to get the Bus 316 again and drop off at Bernhadburg, Monnickendam, then walk to the Bus station Nieuwpoortslaan, Monnickendam and take Bus 315 to Minneweg, Marken. Bus schedule here
Alternatively if you have the iAmsterdam card, a one-way ferry ticket is included free. Tickets are anyway sold on site at the ferry departures. Here you find information on the ferry tickets to buy online and operating hours.
Happy Travels!
