Arrival and Check-In to Hotel Park Plava Laguna
A few days before we departed for Croatia, I received an email for pre-checking in to the Hotel. As we arrived, there was a clear parking lot for the car as we did the check-in procedures. All went smoothly and fast due to the pre-check in. A porter then showed us to the car park and helped us unload the luggage. The lobby itself was not very spectacular, it was rather functional and spacious. The only thing we weren’t so happy about was that we were assigned a late timing for dinner which I tried to change from 8pm to 9.30 pm which is late by our standards. This “shift” dining was due to the corona measures which made it more understandable.
Park Plava Laguna Hotel Room
We had a classic room which was very spacious with a balcony. It had a safe which is quite standard these days but no coffee and tea making facilities, which was disappointing because the room was not at all cheap by Croatian standards. The mini bar too was not for free. The location of the room was facing the street side and not sea view which would have been more expensive. The bed was comfortable enough thankfully. However the thermostat did not allow lower than 18 degrees which we were convinced it did not reach because it was very warm in the room and there was a drip from the air conditioner to the carpet which produced a musty smell in the room. Not so pleasant and for me not worth what we paid.
The bathroom was spacious and clean. Room service was pretty late , coming at around 4 in the evening but they replenished clean towels as normal.
Culinary Delights in Plava Laguna
There was some drama with our eating times as I mentioned earlier. Eating at 8pm was very late for us and I decided to pursue the matter further. I could understand the reason for the split dining but I also thought that there would be people who would like to dine later and that we could swap. I approached the lady handling the restaurant guests and she just mentioned that we could come an hour earlier which was at 7pm when some of the early diners have finished.
The eating place was huge and had tables both indoor and outdoor and were placed a distance away from each other. All good so far in view of Covid times. The buffet was the best thing during our stay as the food was very good quality with tuna steaks, lots of fish and one night unlimited fresh mussels. It also had a very good salad bar, 3 different types of soup, plenty of desserts and the ice cream was very creamy and rich. The good part is that the restaurant staff with glove and mask are taking the food for you. We just had to point and tell them to stop. I found this to be a good practice from the Hotel.
At breakfast it was the same, the only thing was the drinks can be taken on your own and they serve sparkling wine for breakfast. We were counting the number of people who would take it, and not many did. One downside is there was no cappucino available and the coffee was brewed and not from a machine.
Hotel Park Plava Laguna Facilities
As far as I could tell there were 2 pool areas for guest use. One is the relaxation pool near to the Hotel and the other is a cluster of pools where the activity center is located. The cluster consisted of an activity pool with Pirate ship, Children’s pool with slide and another for smaller children.
Wellness Center
The Wellness Center is not so big with 3 sauna areas and a whirlpool. I did not spot the gym and at the time the whirlpool was also not turned on. Beside the whirlpool were a few loungers. The area did not look very relaxing. More like it needs to be there, and so it is.
Other Facilities and Programs
The Hotel Park Plava Laguna has programs to keep the children entertained – children from 4 – 17 years of age. These programs are for the morning and afternoon.
The Adults have gym workout programs in the morning. In the evening, there is entertainment of live music available.
We saw tennis courts on the Hotel grounds but not sure if there are extra charges to use it.
The Beach is just a road away – Right across the road is already the Beach with some independent restaurants which we did not try as we had food included with our stay. The Beach is a public one where the facilities are not part of the Hotel. Loungers and umbrellas by the beach are run by beach vendors and costs a fee.
Getting to Porec Center
The Resort is located about 2 km away from Porec Center and there is a nice coastal walk which are parts shady connecting both. It is a pleasant stroll and the views of Porec as the center gets closer to view.
The tourist train goes from the Spadici Beach to the Center at 30 minutes interval.
The Verdict on Hotel Park Plava Laguna
This is a Hotel very much suited for family. The activities and program provided are aimed towards entertaining the whole family.
Since we were in two – we didn’t participate in the programs. We look forward to the very good food during the dinner buffet. In between we did visits to the center and swim in the warm sea.
The good part is parking is available for a small fee. This is unlike a lot of resorts in these parts where parking is quite expensive per day.
The con for me is the price of the Hotel. It was on the expensive side of almost 100 Euros per person per night and the room was very basic even though it was newly renovated and spacious.
