This region is pretty much dominated by the world famous Lake Bled, which is undeniably pretty as punch. But if you want to go a little bit off the tourist track, to stay and to enjoy a Lake then visit Lake Bled and stay by Lake Bohinj where nature activities run abundant.
A 25-minute drive away from Lake Bled, a good start point is at Ribčev Laz. There are lodgings there with food possibilities and walking distance to the Lake. Its a picturesque shoreline with the Stone Bridge and the Church.
The St. John Baptist church is in the vicinity of 700 years old , and has frescoes lining the walls and ceilings, some are quite gory showing the beheading of the patron saint of the church. Here is the link regarding tickets and opening times of the church.
From here, people make their hiking tracks into the Julian Alps. In Winter there are cable cars going up Mount Vogel for skiing. Lake Bohinj is the largest lake in Slovenia but it is possible to do a 12km walk around the lake. People swim and also fish in the Lake. There is the possibility to take a boat trip on the lake, the link for prices and timetable here. Savica Waterfall nearby is also worth a visit.
